Maribel y Leonardo celebran 25 años de un matrimonio que todos consideran perfecto. La fiesta es elegante, colmada de amigos y familiares. Para el brindis, sus hijos han preparado un video con imágenes y fragmentos de diarios escaneados.
Durante la proyección, aparece una serie de imágenes de un viaje que Leonardo supuestamente hizo solo a los Andes venezolanos, hace un par de décadas. En una de ellas, en el fondo, junto al bellísimo paisaje de montaña, se distingue a la mejor amiga de Maribel.
De inmediato, el video continúa con un fragmento de un diario de Maribel de esa misma época, donde confiesa que su primer hijo no es de Leonardo; algo que él siempre sospechó, pero nunca quiso confirmar.
El salón queda en silencio. Mientras los invitados aplauden con la quijada en el piso, la pareja se mira a los ojos. Leonardo se levanta, toma el micrófono y, con una calma de terror, menciona que en estudios de psicología se analiza la “prevalence of lying” (prevalencia de la mentira) como un mecanismo de supervivencia social. Pero en ese salón comprendieron que la mentira no fue un mecanismo, sino el cimiento de su hogar.
Ambos comprenden, que no se amaban, sino a las versiones ficticias que construyeron para encubrir sus traiciones. La sensación no es de ira, sino de un vacío abismal. Los arropa la certeza de haber dedicado un cuarto de siglo a sostener un museo de falsedades, perdiendo la oportunidad de una vida auténtica, quizás con otras personas.
Terminan el brindis con una sonrisa forzada, pedida por el fotógrafo, sabiendo que su matrimonio murió mucho antes de comenzar… aunque el mundo crea que acaban de llegar a la meta.
Hasta aquí mis dolorosos cinco minutos.

Silver Wedding
Maribel and Leonardo are celebrating 25 years of marriage, which everyone considers perfect. The party is elegant, filled with friends and family. For the toast, their children have prepared a video featuring images and excerpts from scanned diaries.
During the screening, a series of images appears from a trip Leonardo supposedly took alone to the Venezuelan Andes a couple of decades ago. In one of them, in the background, next to the stunning mountain landscape, Maribel’s best friend is clearly visible.
Immediately, the video continues with a fragment of Maribel’s diary from that same era, where she confesses that her first son is not Leonardo’s; something he had always suspected, but never wanted to confirm.
The room falls silent. While the guests applaud with their jaws on the floor, the couple locks eyes. Leonardo stands up, takes the microphone, and, with a chilling calm, notes that psychological studies analyze the “prevalence of lying” as a social survival mechanism. But in that room, they realized that the lie was not a mechanism, but the very foundation of their home.
Both understand that they didn't love each other, but rather the fictional versions they built to cover up their betrayals. The feeling is not one of anger, but of an abysmal void. They are shrouded in the certainty of having dedicated a quarter of a century to sustaining a museum of falsehoods, losing the chance for an authentic life, perhaps with other people.
They finish the toast with a forced smile, requested by the photographer, knowing their marriage died long before it even began… even if the world believes they have just reached the finish line.
