Sometimes ignoring warnings can lead to tragedies. Many times people ignore others' advice or warnings because of some type of animosity or jealousy underlying their refusal to listen. One has to step back and ask the reason why they won't listen. If someone is genuinely interesting in giving advice, and has shown not to have an ulterior motive, then it's something to be reckoned with.

You are correct. People are wary of others, even their advice. But if someone seems to be genuine, you must at least consider their advice. If it fails to produce results, then you may question it.
