Pleasant memories were conjured up the moment I read this week's ZAPFIC50 Friday challenge prompt "pier". Growing up, my parents would take us to the various fishing "holes" where they would actually fish while we sat on the pier and gazed out over the water. I think that is the reason I love to visit the beaches as an adult and stare out over the water, contemplating any issues that tend to arise. Extremely relaxing. I share a story along those lines. Hope you enjoy. This challenge by @felt-buzz is told in exactly fifty (50 words).
My story is below:
The cold river wind howled through the suspension cables.
Sarah, an off-duty paramedic, slowly stepped onto the narrow maintenance pier.
Her younger brother sat on the rusted edge, staring into the dark waters.
She didn't approach.
Instead, she sat two feet away, unbuttoned her jacket, and asked for a cigarette.

Me vinieron a la mente recuerdos agradables en cuanto leí el tema del reto del viernes de ZAPFIC50 de esta semana: «muelle». Cuando era pequeño, mis padres nos llevaban a distintos «sitios» de pesca donde ellos pescaban mientras nosotros nos sentábamos en el muelle y contemplábamos el mar. Creo que esa es la razón por la que, de adulto, me encanta ir a la playa y quedarme mirando el mar, reflexionando sobre cualquier problema que surja. Es tremendamente relajante. Comparto una historia en esa línea. Espero que la disfrutéis. Este reto de @felt-buzz se cuenta en exactamente cincuenta (50) palabras.

Sarah, una paramédica fuera de servicio, se adentró lentamente en el estrecho muelle de mantenimiento.
Su hermano pequeño estaba sentado en el borde oxidado, con la mirada fija en las aguas oscuras.
Ella no se acercó.
En lugar de eso, se sentó a dos pies de distancia, se desabrochó la chaqueta y le pidió un cigarrillo.
