Good day friends! I feel happy having the opportunity to share my writing on today's prompt with everyone.
Theme: dig a trench
Aland is a young guy who just finished tertiary education. It was time for him to move into a new environment for his National Youth Service Corps(NYSC). This is a one year mandatory service that every tertiary institution graduate must pass through and obtain a certificate before applying for most jobs in the country.
So for Aland, he's a Mommy's boy despite his age, he has grown to live with his parents and haven't had an experience of living outside home. But this time around, Aland had to live home and see the outside world, a world where he would cook for himself or tirelessly visit restaurants, a world without no one to direct him or advise him on certain issues that may come up.
After Aland left home, he boarded a bus which took him on a three hours trip to the new state which he was posted to. On arrival, he moved to the house an online agent had already booked for him. Unfortunately for Aland, he moved into his new temporary home during the dry season so he didn't know or couldn't picture such an environment when it's the rainy season.
In less than three months, the rainy season came. After every heavy rain, the entire compound gets flooded from the veranda down till the gates and street.

The entire environment gets flooded so that no one can access the street. Aland wasn't comfortable with this and decided to dig a trench to let the water out his compound to the gutters.
Luckily for him, his plan worked out. All the water coming from the rain flowed through the trench and his compound was no more flooded during and after every rain.
