This is my post for #freewriters 2764 prompt false teeth hosted by @mariannewest
My husband had been losing his teeth for many years now, they would get loose, and he could pull them himself. I think it was last November he went to the dentist to get false teeth, but first he had to get the last six pulled. The first dentist he went to told him he had to have his gums cut and the bone ground down, or something to that effect. He said no, so they refused to do it. They also wanted a lot of money for the dentures.
Next, he went to our local low income dentist, they pulled his remaining teeth in December. He had one appointment after that, but they said he had a piece of tooth that had not worked its way out, so he needed to wait longer before they could fit him for the dentures. Last month, he was able to get another appointment, but when he went in, they told him he will need five more appointments before he can get the teeth. He has been six months without teeth and has been trying to get another appointment without any luck. A few days ago, they called and gave him his next appointment, it is for June 26th. I have never heard of someone having to go this long without teeth, everything he eats, he has to grind up almost like baby food.
Why do things work out like this? He has another appointment on the 26th, but it is early enough that he can make both. The problem is I also have my appointment that day for the colonoscopy, and I have to have him drive me. I am thinking about canceling. I would ask my sister, but her grandkids are out of school, and she would need to have them with her, and it might be too much on her and them to wait that long, so I have not said anything to her. They said they would not do it if I did not have someone there with me to drive me home.......
For the last few years of my Mom's life, she struggled to get by, her mortgage took most of her SS check. I would give her money to help her get by, and my sisters would do the same. Other than her home, she had property in North Florida and Alabama. We tried to get her to sell them, but she refused. I was paying the taxes on the N Fl property for 20 something years for her, and she said I could have it, but we never put it in my name. I tried several times to get her to sell it.
If I counted right, there are 54 pages that we each had to sign and have notarized
She has been gone for four years now, and my sisters and I put the Alabama place up for sale. It sold the day it went on the market. It hurts all three of us that Mom did not have this money. Last night we had to meet with a mobile notary, we met at Mom's house. It took us an hour and a half to sign all of the paperwork, and he said he would fax it to the title company as soon as he was finished with us because it is supposed to close today. I do not know how long it will take, but I hope we get the money in a few days. To me, it is bittersweet. MOM, YOU COULD HAVE USED IT. In my heart, I hope she can hear me. Sure, we can use the money, but she could have used it more.
