This is my post for #freewriters 2809 prompt so much corruption hosted by @mariannewest
A bunch of lawmakers sitting around a room making decisions to make our lives better is how most people think government works? Maybe I have too much of my Dad in me, because I don't believe they are for the good of the people.
There is so much corruption in politics, and that is who runs the government. It has become a what am I going to get from it attitude, and in the end, the environment and the people are what pay for it.
The first thing they want to do is change the way nature has been doing things since the beginning of time. Things like stopping freshwater from entering a lagoon and sending this water to treatment plants to be treated and sold to the new developments. Not caring if they had already dug an inlet that let saltwater into the lagoon, and stopping the freshwater would forever change it. And it did, the good algae, shellfish, fish, and birds all died by the thousands because of this one act.
In other words, a developer might tell a politician, I need water for a new development. I donate a lot of money to your party to make things I want happen. That, in a nutshell, is our government.
The storms take sand from one beach but add it to another, it has always worked like that. Now, when the sand gets washed away, they pump sand from offshore onto the beaches. This is not the same sand as the beach had, and with the storms, it is now covering the reef and killing it.. But the tourists enjoy the beach and want to see no seaweed on it and plenty of sand.
Now our State forest land with big oaks has been "traded" to a developer, he "gave" the State scrub pine land for it. He is building a golf course with housing. He could have built it on his scrub land? But he lined someone's pocket and got State Forest land.
I could go on about the crooked crap this state does, but I think you get my point.
