This is my post for #freewriters 2811 prompt dark days in summer hosted by @mariannewest
My husband is leaving in the morning to go back camping at Lake Kissimmee. I wish I could go with him, but I can not count on my daughter to care for the animals.
Since it is so hot, he found an indoor air conditioner to put in the tent. After he got it home and tried to get it out of his truck, he found it too heavy for him to lift. He has had 3 hernia surgeries and can not lift much weight.
He wants to take the air conditioner with him, so he rigged up a ratchet strap to the railing of the truck topper and hooked it to a rope he tied around the air conditioner and ratcheted it up until he could tilt it onto the tailgate and slide it in the truck.
He did not try this, but he plans on staking this board in the ground and the other end on the tailgate, and he is going to slide it out of the truck.
He packed most of his things today, but is going to wait until morning to put the kayak and bicycle on the truck. One thing he better not forget is bug spray, the mosquitoes and deer flies will eat you up just before the dark days in summer, as soon as the sun gets low, they come out and they want your blood.
