In a village, a strange carrot-eating competition was organized once. The rule was—whoever could finish a basket of carrots the fastest would be the winner. The prize was a solid gold medal and free supply of carrots for a whole year!
The whole village gathered to watch the competition. Among the contestants were the village's biggest eater, Montu Mia, and a thin, lanky young man named Hablu. Hablu had a small water bottle in his hand and a confident smile on his face.

As the flute played, the fight began! Montu Mia started stuffing his mouth with carrots using both hands. His cheeks puffed up like footballs! But carrots are neither sweet nor biscuits that can be swallowed easily; he was struggling while crunching away.
On the other hand, Hablu was very calm. He was taking one carrot at a time, biting it a few times, and sipping a little water. The audience started to laugh— "Hey Hablu, at this pace, you'll take until tomorrow morning to finish!"
When Montu Mia had finished half the basket, his jaw had become numb with pain. He could no longer chew, just sitting there with carrots in his mouth. Meanwhile, Hablu was steadily finishing one carrot after another at his slow pace.
In the end, it turned out that Montu Mia gave up halfway and sat down, while Hablu stood up first after emptying his basket.
The judge asked in surprise, "Hablu, how did you, such a thin person, manage to beat the glutton Montu?"
Hablu smiled and said, "Sir, Montu Bhai was eating carrots out of greed for the prize, while I hadn't eaten anything since last night because there was no food at my house. Out of hunger, it felt to me like I was eating rasgulla instead of carrots!"
The whole village burst into laughter. From that day, the villagers created a saying,Greed makes carrots bitter, but hunger makes carrots taste like rasgulla!
