Good morning all, doing my 5 minutes free writing with prompt - Dorm. Hope you enjoy the story.
Dormitory or commonly know as Dorm is a building providing a group of folks common ground being student or foreign workers a living quarter.
This reminded me of the worst outbreak of COVID-19 cluster in my country at the height of the pandemic which in turn leads to the first lock down of my nation.
The outbreak actually was no surprise to most of us, as we are having a lot of construction projects ongoing by the government prior to the pandemic.
All these projects were awarded to construction companies and they hire foreign workers for the tasks and being a small nation, workers from different projects will be staying together as the number of dorms in the country is limited.
As such, once there is a patient 0, the spread of virus will go to many more construction projects and in turn more dorms contaminated. This vicious cycle then make controlling the spread of COVID-19 challenging.
But the good takeaway is that the poor living conditions in the dorm these workers are subjected to were made known to lawmakers of the day. Laws were review and better laws aim at protecting our workers stating in dorms were passed.
So not all are bad when we were able to create a positive impact.
