The tray sat on the coffee table, piled high with fruits and snacks. This was only John’s second time visiting Victor, but he couldn’t help noticing that it looked almost exactly the same as the last time. Curiosity got the better of him.
“Is that…?” John pointed at the tray.
“For decoration?” Victor finished for him with a grin.
John nodded.
Victor chuckled, reaching into the cooler box for a beer. “No, buddy. That’s not for decoration.”
“Then why’s it always sitting there?”
“To save me trips to the kitchen,” Victor said, laughing. “When I’m busy and get hungry, rummaging through cabinets feels like a chore. So I just keep this tray stocked.”
John shook his head, laughing. “Man, you’re a handful. Can I dig in?”
“Of course,” Victor said, waving him on. “Help yourself. It's meant to be eaten not decoration. I top it up every day.”
