Bienvenidos mis queridos viajeros documentadores del internet y muchas gracias por haber hecho una parada temporal en mi post, el otro día me encontraba viendo memes cuando me apareció una recomendación de una película titulada “The Taking of Deborah Logan” lo curioso es que a la misma se la hacía comparación con los expedientes Warren por lo que era una cita más que obligatoria. Sin más que agregar, prepárense para documentar algo más que una enfermedad pues estamos por comenzar.

Es un filme de terror y de metraje encontrado, la historia se centra en Mia, Gavin y Luis un grupo de grabación que fue creado para hacer un documental sobre Deborah, la misma padece de Alzheimer, pese a no estar muy animada a que la estén grabando la anciana acepta debido a que su hija le hace ver que tienen fuertes problemas económicos, sin embargo, más temprano que tarde comienzan a suceder cosas sumamente extrañas las cuales van más allá de los parámetros normales de la enfermedad.

La banda sonora es agradable, la misma cumple con lo que se espera del apartado musical de una cinta de terror, lo anterior se produce mediante el uso de instrumental tétrica que genere mayor expectativa e intriga en los momentos de miedo.

La construcción del mundo es curiosa, desde el vamos se plantea una ambientación común para los filmes de terror: Escenarios oscuros, sombras y sucesos aconteciendo en segundo plano y ambientes espeluznantes, además, lo interesante es su ángulo de cámara, el mismo tiene ese toque de documental por lo que todos los acontecimientos se viven en primera persona, es algo que le da cierto toque más de intriga al filme en general.
The plot is quite predictable, it gradually escalates as the film progresses, going from some strange events to unpleasant moments with grotesque scenes, in this sense, the film feels less interesting because the subtlety factor is progressively extinguished. Narratively it is bland, from the beginning a demonic possession is denoted and as the protagonists deal with it and face the inexplicable events that surround Deborah, hand in hand with the above there is a mystery that feels very poorly constructed and that only serves as a plot convenience. Her moments of fear are quite meh since they are mostly unpleasant jumpscare, curiously the moments of greatest dread are those that reflect the devastating of the disease and the physical effects that denote the deterioration of the lady, these small details make the film not feel extremely boring, it is digestible as far as it goes.
La trama es bastante predecible, la misma va escalando paulatinamente conforme avanza el filme, pasando de algunos eventos extraños a momentos desagradables con escenas grotescas, en este sentido, la cinta se siente menos interesante debido a que el factor sutileza se va apagando progresivamente. Narrativamente es sosa, desde el vamos se va denotando una posesión demoniaca y como los protagonistas van lidiando con ello y haciendo frente a los sucesos inexplicables que rodean a Deborah, de la mano con lo anterior hay un misterio que se siente muy mal construido y que solo funge como una conveniencia argumental. Sus momentos de miedo son bastante meh puesto que en su mayoría son jumpscare desagradables, curiosamente los momentos de mayor pavor son los que reflejan lo devastador de la enfermedad y los efectos físicos que van denotando el deterioro de la señora, estos pequeños detalles hacen que la película no se sienta sumamente aburrida, es digerible dentro de lo que cabe.
The characters are forgettable, they do not have any kind of characterization or trait that allows you to get attached to them, which means that they do not matter to the viewer in any way, in turn, both the villain entity and the protagonists are uninteresting in general. The only thing to highlight in this section is the difficult relationship between mother and daughter, due to the fact that there is clear friction between them due to past quarrels and the need to try to put them aside for the good of the lady because of her illness, this being the most realistic relationship that the film has to offer.
Los personajes son olvidables, no tienen ninguna clase de caracterización ni rasgo que permita encariñarse con estos, lo que produce que estos no le importen al espectador de ninguna forma, a su vez, tanto la entidad villana como los protagonistas son poco interesantes en líneas generales. Lo único a destacar en este apartado es la relación difícil que tienen madre e hija, debido a que se denotan claras fricciones entre estas por rencillas del pasado y la necesidad de tratar de dejarlas de lado por el bien de la señora a causa de su enfermedad, siendo esta la relación más realista que tiene para ofrecer la cinta.
The Taking of Deborah Logan manages to be interesting at times when it focuses on how devastating Alzheimer's can be for both the sufferer and their caregiver, being its scariest and saddest moments the ones that focus on this disease, however, the film is more about fear and possession being both elements a pretty big fiasco, Its horror scenes are sloppily worked and an abusive use is made of easy scares. It is for all of the above that it deserves 2 stars out of 7, to its credit it has few moments that really make you interested in the film but most of the time it is quite generic.
The Taking of Deborah Logan logra ser interesante por momentos cuando se enfoca en lo devastador que puede llegar a ser el Alzheimer tanto para el que lo padece como para su cuidador, siendo sus momentos más aterradores y tristes los que se enfocan en dicha enfermedad, no obstante, la cinta trata más de miedo y de una posesión siendo ambos elementos un fiasco bastante grande, sus escenas de terror son trabajadas de forma descuidada y se hace un uso abusivo de los sustos fáciles. Es por todo lo anterior que merece 2 estrellas de 7, en su haber tiene contados momentos que verdaderamente te hagan interesarte por el filme pero la mayor parte del tiempo es bastante genérico.
