RE: Scream (1996) Still Cuts Deeper Than Anything That Came After. It Didn’t Just Revive Horror, It Reinvented It.

in Movies & TV Shows11 days ago

A tremendous thriller and one of the great classics of this millennium. What this film achieved goes beyond simply reinventing a subgenre of horror that was thought to be dead in the late 90s. Scream succeeded in creating a much more creative, modern, and defined form of teen horror for the next generation.

It is no wonder that, since then, a huge number of adaptations, films and entire franchises have been born inspired by what Craven achieved here. A villain with a mask, a stalker, violent, unpredictable and insatiable, and protagonists who only serve to magnify each scene with tension, suspense and the most basic and pure terror. It is surprising that, even today, works like this are still seen as an example that the Thriller genre is not completely dead, but has evolved.

Good review.
