Today I decided to watch the movie Dark Crimes I was excited because its premise seemed exciting especially since its a crime film that attempts to analyze the human psyche and uncover dark secrets The film stars Jim Carrey which was strange to me as were used to him in comedic roles but here it was completely different.
I saw the film as an attempt to present a complex psychological detective story telling the story of a detective trying to solve a mysterious murder and discovering that a novelist had written a crime that closely resembled the one that happened in real life The idea was good but the execution was slower than I expected as if the film was deliberately trying to make you feel the weight and loss the hero was experiencing.
The acting was very good especially from Jim Carrey who portrayed a cold and psychologically stressed character in a way that convinced me he was truly a detective tired of life The problem however was that the film relied on an overly gloomy atmosphere Everything was dark even the cinematography made me feel trapped in a bleak world with no hope.
The story itself was engaging at times but at times I felt the events dragged unnecessarily as if the film focused more on the overall atmosphere than on developing a strong plot The ending was intriguing but it also left me with a few unanswered questions.
Dark Crimes is not a film for everyone If you like fast paced action packed films it wont be for you However its a different experience if you enjoy psychological thrillers and complex characters For me its not a film Ill watch again but it was a good onetime experience.
