As a mother of two, I worry about what will become of them when I'm gone. What inheritance will I leave my children? Many people, when they think about inheritance, think about the money they'll leave them, their financial assets. For me, it's more complicated. My first priority is to give them an education so they can live independently even if they don't have a penny to their name. Education, not just academic, is my number one priority.

If we focus on the financial aspect, I'm a bit atypical. While on the one hand I'd like to leave each of my children a house, I also focus on art as an investment. I do this for several reasons. First, because I enjoy it, and this way I can enjoy it as much as they do. Second, because it's an asset uncorrelated with traditional finance. And third, because it teaches them to appreciate things for their value, not their price.
Of course, I also try to leave them some financial assets, but this is primarily intended for my retirement. There's still a long way to go, but I hope to enjoy it.
