A stronger curation trail will be ideal. Why are you not doing a contest of some sort to see who can get more referrals for the trail? I am sure with enough noise around it will be successful.

That is a big question. In my life experance I find contest a waist of time and effort. They give short term gain that usually does not last. People not really interested jump on the contest to win something, then they leave later.
Success of the trail needs to be upto every member. If people join they should no the potential and should be promoting it to help themselves.
And our trail is I beleave in the top 10 of all trails on Hive ;)

organic growth is the best, but sometimes you can push it cleverly. take notes from the contest they do on holozing, their results were very good.
The trail is quite good to create referrals, as the people stay there once they join, most of the time. Not ideal for the node, though.
