In my family house we've had the experience of a bird mistakenly flying right through the window and into the house. I freaked out and left it to my brother to deal with it. A friend of mine got his pet bird this way. In some regions I Ghana, they eat bird meat so for those places they would call it a blessing.
But what if you are not interested in keeping that bird, what do you do to get it out?
You would think that getting the bird out on their own will be easy but when a bird enters your house randomly there's a chance you've been caught by surprise and people who are not ok having animals around them will start to overreact.
But don't go crazy chasing it around, that will only make matters worse. The first thing is to open all windows and close doors on rooms leading deeper into your house so the bird will not go any further. If given enough exits and lots of natural light, almost every bird will eventually find a way back outside. Sometimes they fly out almost immediately and sometimes they take a little longer.
If the bird is sitting somewhere and looks confused, it may be because it's been inside so long, you could use the end of a broom to gently help direct the bird back out through the opening from which it entered.
You could accidentally injure a bird while you try to be too forceful in getting it out and that's the guilt I had when I tried to get one out the compound of the house.
Perhaps turning off the lights in your home once you have opened the windows helps the bird to leave more quickly. Because direct sunlight is something they seem to chase when they're in a confused dark spot. That's how my brother got the pigeon out of our house when we had our own incident of this situation.
