"This is wrong! I can't have a child that is dumb. What are we even saying? There is no trace of such in my lineage. Amarachi there is no trace of such in my lineage."

Udoka, a successful businessman expresses his anger over his son, Chimbuike, who he feels has never impressed him ever since he came into the world.

"My king" His wife, Amarachi would always address him as her king whenever he is angry. She does that to calm his anger. "Have you forgotten that our two baby boys came from God. He did not create himself."

"God is not supposed to give me such son! I was very happy when he gave me to sons at the same time. But why would one of them become a thorn in my flesh? How many private teachers have I paid to teach Chimbuike? How many professional teachers have I paid to make sure he would become like Chimdike, his brother? Something is wrong somewhere and it's obviously not from me."

His wife feels offended at his last statement, "So what are you insinuating? Could you just stop saying that, please? Our son might be dumb, but he is still our child. We went through the stage of their existence together. Why are you talking as if his condition is my fault?"

"We need to verify!" Udoka turns to his wife.

He stares at him for a moment as though she was just seeing him for the first time. "What?"

She angrily turns to leave but turns immediately she looked at the door. Chimbuike was there, he was listening to what they were saying. He ran out immediately his mum saw him.

"Chimbuike!" She runs after him.

Udoka hisses and picks his phone.

Chimdike noticed how his brother ran past him and suspected that something wasn't right. Chimbuike ran to their room and locked it. His mum came afterwards knocking repeatedly, but he refused to open the door.

"Baby please open the door."

"Mum? Could you let him be for the moment? I'd speak to him myself." No one person could talk this way if not the smart one. Irrespective of the fact that his parents loved him more, he still cherishes his brother so much. He gently knocks at the door.

"Brother, could you please open the door?"

Chimbuike refuses to open the door, "Go away! You're the one they like. No one likes me, just go away!"

"But I like you a lot. You are my brother. We came out at the same time. If you are hurt, then I am hurt as well. Please, open the door let's fight this together."

Chimbuike finally opens the door, "Lock it."

He goes to his piano which was a gift from his mum on their 14th birthday. "Dad has never liked me. He think I am a total opposite of what he wants in a child."

Chimdike disagrees with him. "Don't say that, okay. Dad and Mum loves us equally. Dad might say some harsh words out of anger, but I tell you, he really loves and care about us."

"Then you're wrong! Yes you are wrong! Dad hates me to the core! Has he ever called me his son? Has he ever checked on me to know how I'm really doing? The only time my father talks to me is whenever the teachers in school call him to feed him with complaints about me. You know what? I'd make it easier for him."

Chimdike stares at him immediately he said this, "Make it easier for him? What are you talking about?"

"I'd kill myself!"

"God forbid! You will do no such thing! Our parents thinks that because you are not good in academics, then you are worthless. But that's not true. They don't know you as much as I do. You are super talented, you know your ways around the piano, you vocals are excellent. You have times two of what I could ever have."

Chimbuike gently places his hand on the piano even as he is seriously crying.

"I have an idea. A lucrative one for that matter." Chimdike says.

Chimbuike stops and looks at him.

Chimdike continues, "You'd go over to the boy's quarters without Dad and Mums knowledge, and I would pretend not to know your way about. Let's find out our parents reaction. Let's know if they truly hate you like you claim."

FEW HOURS LATER

Amarachi knocks at the boy's room.

"Come in." Says Chimdike.

"Where is your brother?"

She looks at her, "I have no idea. He opened the door and left."

Amarachi got shocked. "Left to where?"

"I don't know! I don't know what you and Dad did to him earlier today. But you guys have finally pushed him out of the house."

Amarachi runs out of the room and hurries downstairs immediately to ask the gateman if he knows his way about.

"Kai madam, me I don't know when small oga comot (I don't know when he left)" Bolingo the gateman replied his madam when she asked him.

Amarachi rushed back upstairs back to her husband. "You've succeded right? If anything happens to my son, I promise you, I would get you arrested!"

"What are you talking about?"

"Chimbuike left this house without anyone's knowledge. Our son is out there in the street! You've pushed him away! What on earth did he ever do to you! He is your son!"

Udoka runs out of the room immediately. "Where was Bolingo when he left this house! Why would he ever let my son leave this house!"

"Your son?" Chimdike says. "Dad this is the first time you've ever addressed him as your son. You guys made life difficult for my brother. People laugh at him in school. No one wants to associate with him, and the worst of it all, his own parents shower him with hate all the time. Dad the only thing he did wrong is becoming your son. He might not be good in academics, but he is smart..."

Udoka and Amarachi could not hold their tears while their son was speaking. They realised how they've failed him as parents. A small boy of 14 educating his parents on how best they should have treated their son.

A sound of a piano from the boy's room. Udoka and Amarachi his wife rushes immediately knowing fully well that Chimbuike is the only one that could play piano in their house.

They apologized to him. From that day, they made him believe how much they loved him. They became the supportive parents he has ever wanted.

Let's learn how to relate with our children.
