Esther is a promising young girl who grew up in the same community where I grew up, she was known to be a decent girl in the community and not only that, she's a religious girl and seeing her, one's mind would be redirected to the biblical Esther who was known for her wisdom and humility.
As for her parents too, they are known to be disciplinarians. Both her father and mother are civil servants, a professional teacher and maybe because of their level of discipline, they inculcate discipline into her and it's an eye-saw for everyone to see.
I could remember a day when a friend of mine, Tayo, told me he wanted to ask Esther out. He said,
“Sam, see how beautiful and intelligent Esther has become.” “Yes, she has really grown up ooo,” I replied. “So, you too can see her beauty,” he said. “Of course, when I'm not blind.” I replied. “I'm sorry, just kidding though,” he said. “You better be kidding,” I told him. “You know what,” he said. “What?” I asked. “I'm thinking of asking her out,” said Tayo. “Haa, you better dare not,” I told him. “Why?” he asked. “As if you do not know her parents,” I said. “Yeah, I know they are no nonsense parents, but I will try my best,” he said. “Okay, no problem,” I replied.
So, immediately after we finished talking, Tayo promised me he would be approaching him the following day and I trust my friend, he would surely do whatever he wished to do.
Although I was not there when he went to approach Esther, he came to gist me what happened when he went to her. He told me that when he got to her, he told her that he would love them to be together and that when he had told the lady her mind, the lady smiled and told her that it would not be possible for both of them to be together as her parents would kill her if caught.
Tayo said he went further to convince her that they can be having their affairs secretly, but that the lady replied to him.and insisted that that would not work as she had tried such before and was caught by her parents and that she was punished for the act.
He said the lady said she wouldn't want such to happen to her again.
After Tayo had finished talking, I told him saying,
“Tayo, didn't I tell you that you didn't have a chance?” I asked. “Well you told me, but I'm fulfilled, I took my shot,” he replied. “Well, I'm proud of you my guy,” I said
However, my guy, Tayo, left and went his way without even communicating or chasing after the lady, Esther again.
Not quite after this, Esther graduated from secondary school, so do I and Tayo, my guy. So, we all processed and gained admission into the same higher institute of learning and it's then that Tayo my guy took another shot at wooing Esther who didn't even hesitate to agreeing to Tayo's proposal this time around.
So, they both began their relationship journey and it was at the beginning so sweet as everybody was in love with their relationship.
However, it was so unfortunate that their relationship didn't last longer before it crashed. Although everything that happened in their relationship was kept a secret from me. However, I got to know about Esther with one rich guy in our department.
So, when I saw her with the rich guy from our department, I called my own friend, Tayo to ask about Esther. It's then that Tayo narrated everything that happened in the relationship to me.
He told me that he loved Esther with all her life and even trusted her more than himself, before that she betrayed her.
He further told me that he got to know this when she started misbehaving with him and he decided to investigate what might have gone wrong with her. He said in the course of his investigation, he was able to track her chats and it's in the process that she got to know that Esther was dating another guy who happened to be the one in my department.
When I heard this, I was so sorry for him, but even when I told him I was so sorry for him, he rejected my emotion and told me point blank that he had moved on. I was so surprised when I heard this as I know my friend to be this kind of a person who would easily be down with such an act. But this time around, he caught me by surprise.
Although, he told me he was so disappointed in the lady as he had thought she was the best anyone can have just because of her background, but that's then as the lady had now become something else.
It's later we heard that the guy who she met was a ritualist who was caught when he wanted to use her for a ritual. When Tayo and I heard this we were shocked, but we were happy for her to have escaped the tragedy that would have befell her. After the incident, she later came back to Tayo and begged him for cheating on him, she asked them to continue but Tayo rejected her proposal but forgave her wrongs.
