Having good relationships with people to me is the bedrock of a society. Though, there's also bad relationships that are not good for a saner society. But in anyways, the good one would always make the society a better one to live in.
Having said that, one thing I know is that, both the good and bad people co-exist in the society or neighborhood, so as good and bad relationships.
This act of existing together has been in existence right from the ages past. For example, the likes of Cain and Abel in the scripture was a typical example of both bad and good, also, the two women that Solomon helped to settle a dispute concerning the death of one's child and the other trying to claim the one that's alive is another example of bad relationships.
Though, there's good one as well even in the scripture where we have the woman called Tabitha/Dorcas, who was known for her good deed and several other people who are good in their relationships with others as well and not only that, they have also left the indelible mark on the life of their neighbors.
So, going by these assertions and the topic of the prompt. I would like to share my little experiences about my neighbor that has been kind to me and if time permits me, the noisy and wicked one as well. I have really had a taste of the two and I can boldly relate the difference between both.
Sometimes in the year 2011, after the demise of my mum, there's this woman with whom we share a fence together in our neighborhood. Her name is simply Mrs Ojo. When Mrs. Ojo heard about the demise of my mum, she was moved with passion. Though, she's always been a friend of the family right from the day one of our meeting as neighbors and she has always been kind to almost everyone on the street, but that of my family was different.
Like I said, when she heard of the demise of my mum, she was moved with compassion and stood by us with everything within and without her. Then, I was a young boy with a brother of 8 years old, Joshua by name. So, it's only I and my brother that were left behind after the death. All the family members that have promised us heaven on earth failed to show up for us. But this woman came through for us and whatever she did for her children, she would do the same for us.
This woman in question took my younger brother as her last born, she would always look after us, get us clothes, pay our school fee and give us food to cook. Whenever we need anything at school, she makes provisions for such needs and other things needed by us. Even people on the street were surprised by the kind gesture of the man. In short, we became the adopted sons of the woman. Though not officially stated, it's obvious in her dealings with us.
We became brothers to her children and not only that, she would not have been able to do all these without the knowing of her husband. Her husband Mr. Ojo also supported her in everything she did for us and even till now, we are still together as one big family and after years we have left the neighborhood, we still go back there to have family meetings with the rest of the family.
Though, not actually their biological children, but we are their adopted sons and we are part of the family. What a neighbor they are? If I should continue to explain and appreciate them for their roles in our lives, I would exhaust all today to be singing them praise because where we are today was as a result of their kindness and effort towards making us live after the death of our mum. They are really our guiding angels sent to us. As there's no discrimination of any kind towards us when we were together.
So, these people really tried for us even when and where family failed us. They stood by us as I have said earlier. They were not part of the family but just a neighbor, but they did creditably well.
Though, they were also disciplined in their approach to things and in raising us up as well. But even with their acts of discipline, they were able to shape our lives to what it's. Thank you the OJO’s we will never forget your labor of love.
This is my entry to the hiveghana weekly prompt.
Thanks for reading.
