Ya boy is back with a little piece of history that weighs almost nothing. A buddy of mine just tossed this my way while he was cleaning out some old drawers... probably thought he found some hidden treasure. It’s an Apollo 11 commemorative medallion, and as you can tell from the bilingual text on the rim"Les Premiers Hommes Sur La Lune" this thing has Canada written all over it.
I did a bit of digging after getting checked on the metal, and yeah, we’re talking straight aluminum here. Back in 1969, when the world was glued to thier TV sets watching Armstrong take that first step, these were being pumped out by the millions. In fact, if you were a kid in Canada back then, they were handing these out in schools and banks like candy. They aren't "coins" you can spend, just tokens of a wild moment in time.
Now, as for the "is it worth anything" talk? Don't go booking a flight to the Maldives just yet. Since it's aluminum and mass produced, you’re looking at maybe five to ten bucks on a good day. It’s more of a piece for the junk jar than the safety deposit box. But honestly, value aint everything. In a world where everyone is chasing digital ghosts and hype that vanishes in a week, holding a physical chunk of 1969 is pretty chill. It’s tangible. It's real. Even if it’s just budget metal, it represents the biggest W we ever took as a species.
Better to have this in your hand than a bag of worthless air, eh?
