Around 10 days ago I made a post about trying to install a GUI based OS on my server instead of the headless ubuntu I had going. link to that post here
Well as I mentioned in the post things did not really work out how I wanted was a bit of a struggle but I made some progress, in that post I had a plan in mind but it was late and I just gave up for that day.
Well I came back to it and ended up installing a GUI on top of the headless ubuntu, it's not really a full out desktop environment some apps still don't want to work out the box but lots of stuff works.
Now if you see the screen shot above that is what the GUI looks like and you may also notice 3 terminals I am doing vibe coding with... so really I am still using it more or less the same way I did before but, it is so much better, so for file management it is great, I am able to launch pinokio and lots of AI apps easily (not all work but most do)
Another great bonus is the connection I am able to use windows remote desktop ( a built in windows tool) to login in from anywhere, one can SSH into the server much in the same way but this way is much better.
You see these 3 terminals first of all that would have to be 3 separate ssh sessions, if I shut down my computer or it goes to sleep the ssh sessions are lost... not with this GUI! unless I logout even if I close the session all 3 windows and anything else I got running will be waiting for me, and I can pick up where I left off easily from any machine that can do RDP/VNC
So yeah take that nerds! They swear by the command line and it is great for somethings but not for everything, unless you running some super low power servers or you have a farm having a GUI is the way!
If you wondering what I am working on, one thing is a local speech to text app so I can use my voice to type on the server via any client connection, the other is some updates to my music visualizer and last but not least I am trying to get some DUO stuff sorted out again.
My inleo subs can have something like 1080 version with sounds included made! and much more for only 5 HBD!
