The Wheels of Lagos: A Look at the City's Commercial Transport

in The City of Neoxianlast month (edited)

Lagos is a beautiful city. It has a beautiful with various water ways. I like its location and general beauty. Lagos is filled with vehicles and the common terminology goslow is common which means traffic Jam. Different regions have different types of vehicle used for transportation. If you are not taking an uber ride or a private transportation, to my knowledge, I will be explaining the vehicles used at certain region to you.

I cant cover all but I will only cover regions or area known to me. Since the mega city development plan, Lagos city has prohibited the use of bikes and tricycles as a means of transportation; humans have resolved to visiting other areas to get a source of income. However, power bikes, and delivery bikes are allowed. Other vehicles such as trucks, buses, trailers, car, helicopter, planes and many others are allowed. Ever since the prohibiton, accidents have drastically reduced with the city.

Lagos island and main lands are connected by bridges one of which is the Carter Bridge which is the oldest of the three bridges. History shows that it was completed in 1901. It connects Iddo on the mainland to the Idumota area on Lagos Island. Next bridge is the Eko Bridge. It is a major artery completed in 1975. It connects Ijora on the mainland to the Apongbon area on Lagos Island. It's known for its frequent maintenance and the notorious traffic jams that occur on it. Third Mainland Bridge, is the longest of the three and, for a time, was one of the longest bridges in Africa. It connects Oworonshoki on the mainland to the Adeniji Adele area on Lagos Island, running across the large Lagos Lagoon.

Around the Yaba to Obalende axis, a common bus used for mass transportation is a Volkswagen type. Usually in the yellow and black colouration.
From Obalende to Ikoyi axis, it is usually a cab, Toyota Corolla, Mazda and others but there is little congestion within these cabs. Obalende to Ajah axis is usually a Volkswagen bus. However within Lekki, Ajah, and Awoyaya axis, there is this mini bus of Japanese origin called Korope (Suzuki). It is very common there. Ajah to Epe axis is usually a model of vehicle called Opel Zafira. Tricycles are not allowed on the main road but other subsidiaries. Tricycles are allowed in Epe. From Obalende to Ikorodu, you can take a BRT bus. It's a very large bus that plies that region.

Generally, Lagos is beautiful and loving.
