Dandenong Hospital : Melbourne, Australia
Well well well, who knew LoL. This came out a lot worse than one would expect from a simple fall, because that is all it really was. So this story will start from the end (no pictures here, no one want's to display there own misfortunes).
The day was beautiful, blue sky, no wind. I was near the end of my ride (home was less than 1km away) It was a major 6 lane intersection (perfect road surface) and I need to cross over to the adjacent road. So I planted as much power as I could to get across as fast as possible when a small gap appeared. One could argue here that maybe waiting until traffic totally cleared it would be the best time, but after 10mins holding up traffic behind me you just got to take your chances.
Cleared the lanes, turning out of my corning the bike decided to stay in the turn as I did a low side slide (motorcycle term for the tyres lost grip). This was fine until I hit the gutter with body and head, could not stand breathing was difficult.
No I did not go to the hospital right away, turned down all assistance until brother inlaw picked me up and took me home. It was my sisters birthday and I'll go after the speeches! Yep that's me ...
Hospital Stay : I call this my Bed And Breakfast Stay
I think the doctors got a bit carried away here, full body 5 CT scans and 3 X-Rays. They was more concerned about my head while I was thinking about how much damage happened to my nephews bike. In the end it was 1 broken rib 1 minor fractured rib and some minor scuffs, no biggie. I night for observation and my biggest scare was that wanted to keep me longer, I fly back to NZ in 2 days. A bit of begging set me free :-)
Ok here's to ride
Apart from the wallaby carcasses along the sides of the roads (the more country areas) I totally could have gone a lot further. I estimated I did 50+ km but without a means to track I used google maps upon return. I finished the ride doing 1 loop of Lysterfield Park #1 cycle circuit before heading home. Really nice park and you get to see a lot of Wallaby's amongst the trees.
This place is popular by the number of hikers/walkers families out on the tracks.
