My wife was scrolling through the news feed on her phone last night. Suddenly, she let out a gasp and said, "No way!" It wasn't a good "No way," either. It was the kind of outburst you'd expect when you find out someone had been hurt.
She told me that Rogue, based out of Oregon, had chosen to close down its Newport distillery, and all of its remaining pub locations in the state.

The Brewery and Distillery
This was especially sad for us, since we traveled to Newport as part of our honeymoon. We took a tour of the Rogue brewery, where I got to sample some of their homemade root beer. It was delicious! We even got to tour the distillery and taste test some of their gin. It was pretty good, too.
The Pub
After the tour was over, we headed over to their pub for food and drinks. It was amazing! We had the clam chowder to start. It was thick and creamy, had good chunks of clam, and made for a great starter on a cold day in Spring!
I ordered some chicken strips and was impressed! They put their beer in the batter, but the chicken wasn't overly battered. It was crunchy, tasty, and the chicken was still juicy! They did a great job with it!
The fries were pretty good. It's hard to find fries these days that really impress me. I'm glad I ordered the fries, because I looked across the table and saw a unique ketchup. It was their own brand, smoked, and infused with their Morimoto Soba Ale!

This is some of the best ketchup I've ever had! It isn't overly sweet, and the flavors are simply amazing! If you manage to find a bottle, grab it! You won't regret it! We grabbed at least six or seven bottles to take with us and gift to family and friends.
It's sad when places like this close down. My wife and I had been planning to make another trip there, but we'll have to plan something else instead. We'll still have the memories to keep with us, and maybe this will encourage us to find someplace new to create new memories.
