Games are meant to be fun. They're also meant to be challenging. When they become something you dread, then people tend to avoid it. If they can't completely avoid it, they try to find ways around it.
This is the case with the game mode known as "Live Arena" in Raid Shadow Legends. It'd be more appropriate to rename it "AFK Arena." Most players hate it since it's designed to force weaker players to match up against players who spend crazy amounts of money in the game.
For those who don't spend boatloads of money, you end up stuck with a 50% win rate. As such, most people start the game mode up, then let it slowly auto run while they go do something else. They'll occasionally pick up some wins from people who quit out of frustration, and they'll automatically win against some bots thrown in as pity matches.
So why design it this way? The reason is twofold. The first is to give those who spend ridiculous amounts of money a small amount of satisfaction of wailing on weaker players, to encourage them to continue spending. Basically, since they have no meaningful satisfaction in other aspects of their life, this is about as good as it gets for them. The second reason is to frustrate weaker players enough in hopes that they'll spend to try and bridge that gap, even though they really have little hope of succeeding.
It must work to some extent, or the game would go out of business. Even so, it's pretty pathetic to design it this way. Still, players find a way around it and go AFK for their fights, pick up some easy wins, and move on with their life. It's a game, so why waste valuable time doing something you don't enjoy, right?
