Health is Wealth, "Health First"

in Hive Reachout7 days ago

Good day dear friends of the #hive-reachout community and everyone. This remains my entry for the weekly prompt number 51: “Change one thing.

I saw this prompt yesterday, I wanted to write on it but something happened, I procrastinated saying I would do so after taking a quick nap. But the unexpected happened, after I woke up from sleep, I began to feel cold, I was shivering and guess what, it's malaria. I feel sick all of a sudden. I wasn't able to even pick my phone not to talk of typing a 500-word writeup for a post.

I had to move out to get drugs later in the evening. While walking down to the pharmacy to get drugs for malaria treatment, I remembered my plans for the day. I had planned to publish on a prompt in the hive reachout community but I've failed to do so and it's because of the sickness. But something extraordinary happened, earlier in the afternoon when I thought of making that post on the prompt, I thought of an idea to write on but after the sickness I received an inspiration of another different idea entirely.
Now here's the idea, enjoy what I've got.

If I have the opportunity to change anything, it will definitely be the quality of healthcare and solutions to some diseases like cancer, HIV and the rest of the diseases which seem to have no cure. I've checked out some posts in the community and I've seen some people talk about education systems and the rest, that's not bad though but I stand on this saying, “Health first.” Only a healthy man can go to school, plan his tomorrow.

Although in some parts of the western world, there's quality healthcare services, in some other parts of the world like Africa ( sorry to say, I'm an African too) it's not so. If I have an opportunity to change anything, it would all revolve around saving lives through quality and trusted healthcare services. Like I said earlier, some diseases seem to have no cure, if I have an opportunity to change anything, finding a cure to these diseases would save many lives that would have been lost due to lack of cure or potent drugs.

Still revolving around health, quality always comes with a cost. Making quality healthcare free is the best thing anyone could do for a common man.

Imagine a family of three with parents who probably lost their jobs and still have other needs to settle, when sickness comes it becomes an extra burden. This is the burden I would love to let off such people's life if I had such an opportunity. Sickness isn't what man calls for, it comes on its own and when it happens, it's never 100% assured that most individuals would have the emergency expenditure in their budget if they even have one.

When I left home yesterday to get some drugs for myself, the pharmacist brought out many packs of drugs for the same treatment of malaria but with different prices. After I purchased the one my pocket could afford and was walking home, I began to reason what could probably be the difference between the four except for the price.

Then I thought of quality and performance. An average budget person like me that went for the middle-priced drug would probably have an average quality drug and drug performance. What about a low budget man who might struggle to afford the cheapest drug, maybe it's a probability that it would work perfectly to treat the disease.

It's often said that children are the leaders of tomorrow. Most children are born with several diseases like polio, diarrhea and lots more and such diseases are due to lack of healthcare services during pregnancy. Certain local areas in most countries of the world don't have hospitals while some have rather unfacilitated hospitals and because of this, the pregnant women are denied prenatal care for their babies. What do these children grow to become without proper healthcare? It's something to look into and if I have the power to change anything, I will go “healthwise.”

Thanks for reading guys!
