Personally, I believe that charity indeed begins at home. You can ignore your neighbors, family members and those close to you and decide to just take the help you could offer farway to others. Because, tell me why you will ignore your close friends who hasn't eaten, ignore your sick mum, ignore your neighbor that's struggling and go ahead dto help people that you don't even know.
I'm not saying it's bad to help strangers, it is also an act of kindness, and I am not discouraging acts like that, I'm just saying charity begins at home, why will you be bad and seen as an unkind person at home, and be praised and seen as a good person outside.
Also, the real intention behind acts of kindness matters. The fact that you're being and doing good deeds at home does not automatically mean the intention is good and pure, and the fact that you're doing it out doesn't mean same too. At times, the reason some choose to help those outside and ignore their own is all because of the visibility, validation and applause they will get from helping outsiders. When they help out, they can always make it public by taking photographs, doing videos and posting it online. And there's nothing more to call that kind of act than performance, because why will you have family members who are suffering and you refuse to help them.
I've asked well come to realize some things over the years as to why some prefer helping outsiders than helping at home, and it is that some who are being helped at home are always ungrateful or feel a different they deserve much more. And in as much as we all agree and can say that we are not doing it to be seen and all, there's something that comes from saying thank you, genuinely. There's something that does to the doer of such good deeds. And such people helping always feels somehow about it, so they decide to help those who are far away, outsiders that will appreciate them and even rain prayers on them.
In conclusion, I will like to say that we shouldn't ignore those who are closer to us, while trying to impress the outside world. Charity is about, love, sincerity, sacrifice, genuineness, and impact.
