Greetings
This life is not a life to live alone. It's a life where we live with others and with others in our mind. Such a time I'm trying to depict here is a life where we extend our hands of charity and friendship to others. A life where we serve humanity with whatever we have either little or big, a life where we help people most especially the poor ones among us with our substance.
What kind of a life is this? This is a life of love where we show love to others. It's a REACHOUT LIFE. In so many instances, I have seen people wallowing in hunger and poverty without any hope at sight. Not only this, most of our communities are lacking one good thing or the other. Though the economy is bad, we should always show love to our neighbors by reaching out to them.
No wonder the bible says, “ love your neighbor as yourself. "Loving one's neighbor means there's a task to be carried out. And this has always been my act when I see people that are in need of something that I have but they do not have. Though, people think reaching out is all about money, but atimes, it might be through advice, commitment to doing something in the neighborhood and so on.
I have in my own capacity reached out to people both in kind and in cash. Though, it's not as if I was that buoyant or rich, but with the little that I have, I have been able to do justice with it in a way of reaching out to people, even if it's small. Some time ago, when I was in university, I met a guy, Abass. He was so buoyant and used to bring things to the hostel and would even share it among us. Though, he was not a student then, but a jamb candidate who's preparing to write his jamb exam.
So, after he sat for the exam, he left our hostel and since then, we never heard of him. It's like 2 years back that I got a call from him and when he called, he was sobbing and crying on the phone. Haa, who am I up to, he replied and mentioned his name, what happened to you? He said he just lost his two parents and that life has been treating him badly. When I heard this, I was sad and I consoled him that I have once been in his shoes. I promised to always reach out to him with the little I have. And since then, I used to reach out to him with the little that I have. Atimes 2k to 5k per month it all depends on my income.
But one thing I have noticed about him is that he used to appreciate that token as if it's big enough to take care of him. So reaching out to people is one thing I have always desired to do and that I will always do.
I have also organized free tutorials for my students in the school, which I used to do every year to boost the academic performances of the students. I do this just to help my society to curb the increase in the number of out of school children. Though, it's free from my own end, but not compulsory for those that are not interested. This I do with the help of those my colleagues in the teaching profession.
Also, I have always given gift to those of my students that performed best in their exams. Though I wasn't sent by the government or the school authority to do so, it's always been my pleasure to reach out to the best students. Atimes, I do pay for the SSCE exams of the most outstanding students just to encourage them and those coming after to toll the path of success.
Reaching out and humanitarian services to people and humanity are the best habits each and everyone in the society should cultivate as being done by this love community, the HIVE REACHOUT community. This can be seen in the way they make provision to various communities in the society.
Before I drop my pen, I would like to leave us with this statement. “We would best be known or remembered for our service to humanity and not by those physical properties being put in place, but by the impact and influence we have on others. This would be our lifelong legacy.”
