A few years ago, whenever I saw people pay big money for an online course or a professional class, I used to think…
“Why waste the money? Can’t you just sit down with YouTube, Google and a notepad?”
I mean, that was my logic. Free information is everywhere, right?
But here is the truth I have learned over time, there are some things you simply cannot figure out on your own. There’s knowledge, structure and positioning you will never see unless you pay to access it. And in business, that’s everything.
The Myth About Entrepreneurship
Some people think entrepreneurship is just buying and selling at a profit.
But those who are really thriving?
They have invested heavily in themselves, in knowledge, strategy and behind the scenes work they will never hand out for free.
I have been business minded for as long as I can remember. Even before I got into the university, I already knew it was business or business or business for me.
School? Yes. But mainly as leverage. I have always known my certificate isn’t my ultimate source of income, my passion is building something of my own.
The Missing Spark
There was a point where business was going fine but not at the level I wanted.
I would consult for people, share ideas, watch them succeed, sometimes beyond my expectations yet I knew there was a spark I hadn’t tapped into.
Then came a turning point.
My sister (also an entrepreneur) sent me a link to a business masterclass.
After the free intro session, I almost hesitated to pay for the full thing.
But I took the leap and wow.
It completely changed my perspective.
It felt like someone handed me the special recipe that makes the difference between ordinary and exceptional.
The “Jollof Rice” Lesson
Think of it like Jollof rice.
We all know how to make it but what makes your Jollof stand out?
The aroma, the presentation, the flavor that makes people crave it again?
That’s the secret ingredient.
In business, those “ingredients” are often locked inside the kind of training, mentorship and paid learning that most people skip.
Why It Matters
Since that day, I realized something…
Even the most successful entrepreneurs are constantly investing in themselves.
You may run ads more than them, post more than them and even have more products yet they will still outpace you because they are better positioned.
So here’s my encouragement: Let's stop thinking it’s a waste to pay for courses, coaching or programs even if you feel you already know what they will teach.
Sometimes, just one single sentence from that training can unlock the answer you have been searching for all along.
Your business, your brand, your personal growth, they are worth the investment.
Now, I would love to hear from you…
Do you think paying to acquire knowledge is worth it?
Has it ever given you a game changing insight?
