Horsegram soup, also called as Kollu Rasam in our place

Greetings 🙏 dear Hiveans and members of the Plantpower(vegan) community.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE

INGREDIENTS

FOR GRAVY

  • Horsegram - 2 tbsp
  • Salt - as required
  • Water - 2 glass

Roast the horsegram in a dry vessel and soak it in water for 3 to 4 hours. After soaking, put them in a pressure cooker and boil until 8 whistles. Switch off the flame and let it cool.

Once it cools, grind the Horsegram along with its cooked water and salt in a mixer, and keep them aside.

FOR DRY FRY

  • Black pepper - 1 tsp
  • Coriander seeds - 1 tsp
  • Cumin - 1 tsp
  • Dry red pepper - 4 to 5 numbers
  • Curry leaves - 1 sprigs
  • Garlic - 10 to 12 flakes

Dry roast all these ingredients except garlic. And grind them in a mixer. Once done, add those garlic flakes along with skin to these powdered mixture and grind them once again, in pulse mode.

FOR TEMPERING

  • Coconut oil - 1 tbsp
  • Mustard - 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Urad Dal - 1/2 tsp
  • Red pepper - 2 or 3
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 2 sprigs
  • Tomato - 1 medium sized (sliced lengthy)
  • Tamarind - A lemon sized pulp

Now take a pan to prepare the soup. First add some coconut oil. To it add, step by step, mustard, cumjn, urad dal, Red pepper and Curry leaves and stir for just 1 minutes. . Now add turmeric and the dry grinded mix and fry for just 1 minute. Once the aroma starts add sliced tomato and saute for 2 minutes. Now, squeeze the tamrind pulp in 1 cup of water and pour into this. Immediately, pour the grinded Horsegram pulp into this mixture. Dilute it with another cup of water. Let them boil.

FINALLY FOR AROMA

  • Asafoetida - 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander leaf chopped - a hand full.

After it boils for 3 minutes add Asafoetida powder and chopped Coriander leaves. This blend gives a special aroma to the prepared so called rasam, awakening even our neighbours.

Note: The garlic can be burnt a little in direct flame, to give more aroma and flavour to the Horsegram soup otherwise called as kollu rasam in my place

Drinking this alone can improve your appetite as well as can reduce your indigestion problems, probably because they are made of Spices.
