New Stamps - Nazist Ukraine, Pigeons of Peace, and a Black Swan

in Hive Collectorslast month (edited)

@delishtreats - I noticed you consider a lot of posts in Team Ukrain community worth your support, thus I welcome you here as well to enjoy these trivia visuals - although I avoid sending my post to said community.

Oki, the actual subject of my post is this beautiful addition to my stamps collection - the Ukrainian stamp from 1942. I received this stamp (luxury condition, intact adhesive layer, perfect neat perforation) within a huge selection of other stamps with today's mail. What inextricably links together Ukraine and Nazi? A lot of things, really, with this stamp just being one of them.

I was delivered three letters today - three lots I bought at online auction a week ago. One of them contained selection of random German stamps from 1920-1943; another (quite a tiny one) contained several late USSR stamps (nothing rare actually) plus Czech stamps from 1943; and the third letter housed a nice selection of old Europe, mostly Austria, Serbia, Netherlands, and French colonies. Lots of interesting stuff - a big and pleasurable addition to my collection.

Scrolling through the auction catalogs, I stop every time I see stamps with doves. They were especially numerous in the 1930s, by various European countries. Why? It's very simple: a dove is a symbol of peace! (and at the same time, a symbol of mail, postal delivery). Double bingo. So there are a lot of these stamps, and it's a good attractor/trigger/reason for collecting. I'm holding myself back from jumping on this one too... but I still buy some individual stamps. This is one of them.

I also bought a large and very special issue of Czech stamps from 1943....

2025-may-3898w-h1.jpg

The full set consists of 9 stamps, this is a simplified so called 'newspaper format' release - stamps have no perforations.

I guess they deserve a better close-up and a separate post to tell the full story, so I will postpone it for another better time.

@tazi, @bucipuci, have a look - I am not in the know are you in love with old papers like me, but I hope you will find your deserved pleasure in this piece of history. Arent they nice?!

I also included in this package (and payed 0.5 USD) for this old Australian stamp from 1888 - for it has another beautiful birdie that I dont encounter too often.

2025-may-3929w-h1.jpg

No, its not a pigeon, lol - its a black swan. @nelinoeva, what do you think, can we have another 'Birds in Art' week, is it time? I feel more prepared for it now than ever 😎

The 3rd letter as I said was huge and included so much stuff... that I will present you next time. Let me round up my post here. See you next time!

I'll start my commentary by translating your introduction for Anglophone readers. I would like to point out that ‘khokhly’ is a derogatory name for Ukrainians in Russian lang. The rest of your text speaks for itself.

I will start today's post in a funny Khokhly language, because I have a suitable subject for the post - a Ukrainian stamp from 1943. What inextricably connects Ukraine and Fascism? Oh, many things. A culturally educated person will be able to give an interesting answer to this question... unlike the Ukrainian farmers who have filled the Hive in recent years. For example, here is this Ukrainian stamp.

And it's not a secret that Ukraine was under German occupation from 1941 to 1944. That's it.

Thanks for your comment about my stamps, appreciated.
Do you personally feel offended with me using this word?
It appeared for the 1st time in my blog, by the way (for a reason).

Do you personally feel offended with me using this word?

Yes I am.
I am also offended by the hints about the connection between Ukraine and Nazism. I also don't understand who exactly you mean when you say farmers.

I also don't understand who exactly you mean when you say farmers.

Which is simply great! 🙏 this means you are a good Hivean and not a part of their nasty circle.

Thanks you for an honest answer. And by the way, since you are a guest of my blog, let me ask you one more question, what do you think about this current initiative of Ukrainian community on boosting the users activity?.. and - whats your guess of what I should feel and think about it?
ps its completely unrelated to the discussion, just for the record: I did not approve the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and I do not approve or support in any way the war of 2022, also I did not change my mind and did not start to see enemies in those Ukrainians whom I get acquainted here at Hive (@leylar @arhat @gulia.peito @unmuted - to name a few).

After reading another propaganda nonsense about fascism and the funny Ukrainian language, you ask the question:
Is any dialogue even possible in the fourth year of a full-scale war?

If you considered to make your feasible and winning contribution to the war, by hitting the Russian state hard -- instead you hit several Hivean silver bloggers from Russia... and missed the aim very, very badly.
Ukrainians always had meanness in their blood, this case is just another small evidence.

Regarding meanness and blood.
Back in 1851, the great Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko wrote a wonderful poem called "Katsap".
This poem quite clearly conveys the peculiarities of the so-called mysterious soul of our northeastern neighbor.

⭐️

Words of peace. I need them, these days especially

what do you think about this current initiative of Ukrainian community on boosting the users activity?.. and - whats your guess of what I should feel and think about it?

This question is not for me. I prefer different methods.

this means you are a good Hivean and not a part of their nasty circle.
downvote от тебя с очевидностью показывает, что нет.

so I am a good Hivean until I disagree with you? well, let it be. although, I am sorry

Bro, I usually ignore all this noise. Some people always feel offended and look for someone to blame. And, surprise, in their opinion, we are always to blame. But such dialogues are a dead end, full of accusations and showdowns. I want to remind you of one simple thing: nations, divisions - these are all conventions. (Whoever knows, will understand what I mean.) I will not continue the polemics, otherwise the shit will start again. Today, I sincerely wish everyone a peaceful sky, goodness and normal human relations. Peace to the world, as they say! ✌️

My brother collected stamps. Started when he was a child...an invalid. It was the perfect hobby and it taught him history. Even as he aged and his accommodations shrank, he rented storage space for his stamps.

I'm not touching the war history. I hate war...who doesn't? I think we won't have to worry about a population explosion in the future. Catastrophic war, or pandemic will take take care of that problem.

who doesnt? politicians I guess. they love it more than water and air we breath 🤓

history / war history perhaps is the only possible angle for me to approach war, to look at it... at all.

the trends are, that we have to worry about mankind's degradation - both mentally and phisically. the introduction of AI into our lives (in the long term) erases more and more so called "middle class" to a very smallest insignificant numbers... most folks (the future generations) will turn into idlers living their lives on welfare. this is... an extremely unhealthy scenario for humanity. 😨

they love it more than water and air we breath

That line might have been written by Brecht..😕

Grazie!! 😎

Love the pigeon stamps, it is well symbolized the stamp with that bird because, as you mentioned, it is a symbol of peace and carrier pigeons haha after all, they were used to deliver the mail, they deserved a tribute made stamps 👀❤️

Me too. 😍 Immaculate, irresistable stamps

Thank you for your stamp collection @qwerrie, the black swan is my favourite.

To avoid any kind of misunderstanding, in future, please include the English translation of all paragraphs of the text that are not written in English. I don't speak the language you wrote the first paragraph. Thank you. Also, I added another rule/suggestion for the community.

ok 🐈 excluding comments - the post was purely about stamps, I dont see it as 'political' - but of course, many folks react to swastika / Hitler images in a same predictable repetitious manner.

Yeah, I suppose it was not the intention, well, I didn't understand the first paragraph, but saw that Zirocha felt offended - that's why the new suggestion (it goes for everyone) - to avoid future misunderstandings. ;)

Let's focus then on the feathered stamps and the dove stamp, as a symbol of peace 🕊

I'd love to, but - it is not possible to focus particularly on peaceful birdies, at least not now. You probably not in the know yet, but Team Ukraine proclaimed a Hive Downvote War against Russian speaking users, with the usual flag war consequences one can imagine. 🙁 ☹️ 😖

No, I am not aware of that, but I do hope that situation also resolves.

😇

What a great and beautiful collection of stamps, I especially loved the Australian swan, beautiful!

Glad - thank you for choosing your favourite.
In next weeks I will share more and more shots of it.
lets share Hive !PIZZA to celebrate the deal 😋

She is gorgeous and beautiful the swan! Thanks to you.

This disgusting mug sent to the other world during the Second World War (including soldiers and civilians) - from 70 to 85 million people.
This is about 3-4% of the world's population at that time.
I understand your passion for stamps, but I would burn it!
By the way, I did not know that it was so easy to buy the stamps you are interested in, I myself am not a collector, but I read your post with pleasure. It is interesting to understand what their value is and why some cost a lot of money. Thanks for the interesting post.

You can burn the papers easily - but it is not so easy to rid of the history itself. It will bang you (and new generations) again and again, whether you burn these stamps or keep them in your album. My strong opinion is -- folks should learn the history better, so that they 'd choose less nasty ways to go into the bright future. Btw - I am not particularly intrested in Deutches Reich stamps, other ones attract me much more.
Thanx for dropping your comment, and for the vizit. Much appreciated.

Thank you so much!!

I may have had some postage stamps as a little boy. But as far as I know, I wasn't really interested in them. I preferred to wander around meadows and forests :-)

If you'll find it one day, feel free to share with us, we have this special community for this.

I probably won't look for it. It was 50 years ago :-).
