Every course of study has its textbook. The Bible is the textbook containing the lessons about the christian faith. Every devise has its manual or manuscript. The Bible is the manuscript for the christian life. Every journey has its compass. The Bible is the compass for the christian pilgrimage. We must understand the Bible.
The Bible contains the mind of God. It tells us of the will of God. It reveals the plans and purposes of God for our lives unto us. We need to know and understand the Bible if we want to please God in our lives. There is no way that we can do that which is the will of God without knowing what the Bible says.
Human knowledge or academic knowledge cannot give us what the Bible teaches. The letters killeth but the spirit giveth life. It is the spirit in the Word of God that we grasp that is able to transform and build our lives. We need the Holy Spirit to teach us the Word of God. Let us depend on God whenever we are reading our Bibles and open our hearts unto the Holy Spirit.
