What is the image of God which we were made of? Is it physical or is it figurative? God is a spirit so the image of God which the Bible is talking about is not physical neither is it figurative. It is a spiritual likeness because God is a spirit.
The spiritual of God that we are made of of is righteousness. God is righteous so he made man righteous. God is holy so he made man holy. We were created in righteousness because God is righteous. God created us to live in holiness.
The Bible says that man found out many inventions for himself. God created man upright. God made us according to His holiness. We were to possess the image of God's righteousness. But man sought out many inventions for himself.
So, the image of God is not of our physical appearance. It is the image of God's righteousness and holiness.
