Gilmer Bay | Alaska [ENG-GER]

in Drone22 days ago

After spending 2 days in White Sulfur springs we decided to go to Gilmer Bay which was just under 45 nm (70km) and this would take us about 9 hours on average - we still have long days which helps us a lot as we don't want to be sailing out in the night.

Gilmer Bay:

Once we arrived l was desperate to fly the drone and capture the fog going right over a small hill...

l was a bit too late but you can still see the fog acting like a waterfall which l found really pretty - l also managed to get a little higher than the mountain on the right and got a cool shot.

Unfortunately it was too early for a sunset shot but l thought it still looked good - what do you think?

Not a single cloud in sight, these days are very rare and some locals even say that there are only 20 days out of the year that look like these!

l still had plenty of battery left so l went to check out the beach right behind us.

With this shot l already knew there was a huge school of salmon - that black line or blob is all salmon, lets get closer eh...

This is most likely all pink salmon, all waiting for high-tide to get into the river-mount and eventually breed in the lakes which are further up stream.

Luckily l didn't smash in any trees or branches whilst taking this shot...

Gilmer Bay is known for the howling wolves and mountains goats - we did see one goat with our binoculars however we weren't completely sure if it was a mountain goat.
