Constructing a rope hanger

in Lifestyle8 months ago

Greetings!

Yesterday, I saw the need to make a new hanger where I hang the clothes I wash. I needed an entirely different spot because the place I was using before was being disturbed by smoke from an open kitchen where a neighbour cooks with firewood. The smoke was interfering with my laundry work there.

Currently, the economy is so hard that anything one wants to build requires a huge amount of money. I knew I was going to spend money on buying wood, nails, and paying for the service, but I didn't think I was going to spend so much.

When I went to buy the wood—just two logs of 4x5—the cost was nothing like I imagined. After I was told the price, I wanted to drop the idea, but it was something I needed to do. If I should procrastinate, the price might increase in the coming weeks. So, I bought the two long logs and other 2x3.

We got home, and with the guy I hired, we used a saw to cut the wood to the size we wanted. We also used the 2x3 log we bought to make a frame/wedge on it.

We dug the hole very deep at the spot I wanted the hanger to be. The ground was very soft because it gets waterlogged whenever it rains heavily.

The guy suggested that since the ground was too soft and there was a tendency for the wood to get soaked further into the ground when it rains consistently—and that would reduce the height we wanted the hanger to be—he suggested that we use nylons at the foot of the wood when placing it in the ground. That's exactly what we did. I brought nylons and put them at the depth of the hole to serve as a base.

After we had placed it in the ground and covered it with sand, we noticed how tall they appeared—so tall that my hand couldn’t reach the top to tie the rope. I had to use a bench to climb and tie the rope.

The length is so long that the rope sags when it's being used. So I considered this when tying the rope and fastened it very well to the extent that one needs to stretch the hand very high to be able to hang clothes on it.

Funnily, after just one day of using it, the rope sagged a lot, and this morning, I had to retie it, fastening it very well in a way that it won’t sag again anytime soon.
