The high-paced modern world and society are dominated by material accomplishment and digital distractions. While we need such modern dimensions in our life, I seek solace in my garden; my garden is my sanctuary of happiness that transcends the material metrics.
You grow a plant, nurture it, see it growing into a big tree, and then it starts bearing fruits, you pluck those fruits and consume them- that is what real happiness is. Try to develop a small garden, try to plant a tree, develop a relationship with Nature, you dont have to go anywhere in search of happiness, you will inherently explore that in your garden.
I am fortunate to be endowed with a big garden integrated into our home. Our garden is brimming with sapodilla, guava, brinjal, and vibrant flower plants.
We mostly grow seasonal veggies, and we try to avoid planting hybrid plants. We believe in sticking with natural and local breeds of plants when it comes to growing mango, guava, and similar traditional local fruits.
In modern days, there has been a growing trend of hybrid plants where people want to see it bear fruits in just 2-3 years time, and they dont want to see a big tree; rather they are more in interested in having a short tree of 3/4 feet height and bearing tons of fruits. This is really bad.
Growing a plant is not just about milking fruits, but also about the other variables that a plant offers. A plant is a whole ecosystem; it offers shade, and the birds also dwell in big trees. So we should respect the needs of the other creatures that are integrated with a plant.
Humans should plant big trees instead, where all other elements of this ecosystem can find a way to develop a symbiotic relationship.
I am more interested in the intangible yields of my garden. My garden bestows happiness, peace, and a better connection to the meaning of life. I am a nature lover from the get-go. So, living in harmony with nature is a serene and peaceful co-existence.
In a world where processed foods dominate, growing one’s own food is an act of reclaiming autonomy over health. My sapodilla and guava trees yield sweet, nourishing fruits, while brinjal plants provide fresh, organic vegetables. We also grow other vegetables and reduce our reliance on commercial produce.
The physical act of gardening promotes physical well-being as it promotes passive exercise of the body.
Physiologically, my garden offers fresh air, fragrance, true & natural screen-bound lifestyles, not the synthetic ones.....
Each morning, as I roam around my garden & my flower plants, their vivid colors and delicate fragrances evoke a sense of romanticism with Nature. I develop an intense affair with Nature. Put simply, contentment is a simple and natural process......do not complicate it, do not overdo it, return to nature, you will be home.
Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking-- Marcus Aurelius
My garden is a social and spiritual bridge as well-- I see the miracle of life unfolding in my garden. Have you ever keenly observed how a bud pops up and then flourishes into a flower by opening its petals? At what speed does it happen? Observe it, you will realize how miracles are happening and triggering by Nature.
While the prosperity of the material world is defined by currency, synthetic accomplishment, my currency of happiness is my garden that redefines and shapes prosperity.
To be continued........
Thank you.
