RE: Are you a father? Protect your family by being steadfast in the Lord. 🙏 ...

I don't agree with this

However if we choose to do good always or as much as we can in each situation we encounter that is how we follow Jesus towards our salvation.

I don't see that in scripture at all. What I find is no one is good. No one seeks God. Nothing is outside of God's will (as seen in Job and all over scripture). Jesus said only God is good. Also, I don't think it is our salvation. It's secured in heaven for the glory of God and it's entirely His doing.

I also don't think we have "free will" in the sense that we think it is in the world. Scripture tells us we always choose sin. We are sin to the core. So, that doesn't sound "free" in the sense that we can choose anything else other than sin.

We are His workmanship. We are the clay. We are dead in sin. I think we have a ton in common, but I ground all in Scripture and I see no where in the context of what is being said that we can choose to do good. We only get credit for the bad we do. We can't do good without God. All things good come from above.

It's not about knowing something that others don't know. It's not an understanding. It's God pruning and shaping the vine. No one can save themselves or others. Just like the Ark. God deemed Noah and his family righteous. He picked them. Noah preached for 100 years and no one listened (God didn't choose them for mercy). Noah couldn't save a single person. And God sealed them in the Ark. God closed the door. Sealing them in their salvation that He did. Jesus is our Ark.

We are saved by grace through faith. It is a gift of God. It is not by works so no one can boast. Salvation is God's alone. Anything good is God's doing. Anything we "freely" choose is sinful.

Well said on the Protestant teaching. However I am talking about the Catholic teaching so of course you will get confused by it. The best thing to do is to pray to God daily and ask Him what is the truth. If people cannot trust the only religion Jesus instituted then we can always ask God to give us clarity. God bless your spiritual journey. 🙏

I am just going off the the teaching of Holy Scripture. I am a Lutheran and I understand you are a Catholic. I'm just stating that scripture (God's Word) tells us all the things I stated. No one is good. God is in control of salvation. It's not by works or anything we do.

I can understand that our traditions differ, but we should be able to agree what His Word teaches.

So you mean nobody, no one at all, can do any good thing according to Protestant teaching? How sad. It's like saying God never gave us free will.

It's true, God is in control of everything but He does not force anyone to do anything. He also allows good things to happen thru us humans. We are His creation and instruments on Earth, right? So it follows that because of Him we can do good things/works when we open ourselves to Him. What I got from what you said is Protestants don't even want to give any kind of credit to humans which is sad but hey as I mentioned God will show us the truth when we ask Him for it. 😁 A daily prayer life and some fasting too is the best way to go about it. 😉

Protestant teachings is an offshoot of the schism from Catholicism which is why there are many things we have different due to the personal interpretation of the founders and different pastors of each denomination and such. Meanwhile Catholics only adhere to the early church traditions and teachings plus the writings of the saints, etc. That's the big difference right there. You might wanna look into Scott Hahn's book Rome Sweet Home on what's the deal. 😁
