Have you ever been so bored you randomly started scrolling Reddit? If you have a weak stomach, I'd advise against it. Tonight was one such night. I discovered Piure, which is considered a delicacy in Chile and Peru.
It all started with this video.
The comments are typically a bad version of "Wrong answers only." Buried further down is the real answer.
Piure is sometimes called a "living rock" because its exterior resembles coral, rocks, etc., but inside contains flesh from an organism that acts as a filter.

The "pocket" you see this guy carving out is considered a delicacy. Its taste is said to be salty or having an iron taste to it. (Source)
Apparently, people put this in all sorts of foods, ranging from soup, to rice and empanadas. I've become fairly adventurous with food, but this is a bit of a stretch.
After going down the rabbit hole just a bit farther than I intended, I may just avoid late-night random Reddit surfing for a bit.
What's a weird thing you've come across in a random search recently?
