The countdown is on: two busy days ahead and then Monday, aka the ultimate test of parental logistics, back to school. It’s the day when breakfast feels like a competitive sport, backpacks multiply like rabbits, and everyone suddenly forgets how to put on shoes.
But today, in the middle of all the “grande rentrée” prep, I carved out some breathing room. I laced up my shoes and headed back to my trusty canal trail. Same water, same path, same big Belgian sky doing its thing with clouds that look like they’re auditioning for a painting.
There’s something grounding about walking here. The stillness of the water reflecting those heavy skies feels like the opposite of the chaos waiting for me at home. It’s a reminder that even when the schedule is nuts, there’s always room to put one foot in front of the other. Step after step, 10,000 times over.
And here’s the thing: hitting that step goal isn’t really about fitness anymore. It’s about creating a pocket of peace in the day. A little reminder that amidst school prep lists, packed lunches, and the Monday mayhem, I still get to choose how I carry myself through it. Today, I chose the canal, the clouds, and a long walk that gave me just enough space to breathe.
10k+ steps, mind reset, ready (sort of) for Monday.
