It’s starting to feel like getting out for three walks in a week qualifies as a minor miracle. Not quite parting-the-seas level, but definitely “should probably buy a lottery ticket” tier. So when lunchtime opened a sliver of space today, I didn’t hesitate, I grabbed it like the last free charger at an airport. Seven and a half kilometers later, I had movement in my legs, cold in my bones, and a questionable number of photos of what appears to be the setting for every Nordic noir series ever made.
Let’s get this straight: the weather was objectively trash. Not dramatic or stormy, just that grey, soulless cold that makes you wonder if the sun filed for divorce and left no forwarding address. The canal looked like it had been ghosted by summer. The trees? Bare, brittle, and clearly over it. I passed joggers with the facial expressions of people rethinking every life choice that led to owning thermal tights.
And yet, it worked.
There’s something oddly clarifying about walking through a landscape that looks like it’s been bleached of emotion. No distractions, no neon sunsets begging for a filter. Just fog, path, and the steady sound of shoes convincing the ground that yes, we are still doing this. I didn’t get a breakthrough, I didn’t solve world peace, and I didn’t warm up even a little. But I did keep walking, and for now, that’s the only plot twist I needed.
Also, shoutout to the one duck that looked up when I passed. King behavior. Everyone else was just cold and floating—relatable, really.
