RE: Soggy Steps and Stormy Skies

in Actifit3 days ago

Well, there's a few things that motivate me, and Actifit (and Step'n, another move2earn app, but not on Hive) is one of them! Earn Hive while walking, how great is that :-D
The other things are beating my condition, getting & keeping my body in shape better and faster than my illness can break it down. I want to be here for my kids and my loving wife (@nathalie-s ) for as long as possible, and in a good way!

That sounds fantastic. Earn while you also get the benefit of exercise? Sounds wonderful. I am so sorry to hear you are ill, I actually had no idea. I am also battling with chronic illness and trying to find a way to cope both mentally and physically.

No problem, I was lucky to have been diagnosed right before the major damage would’ve started, around my 20th. Ever since, I’m working on damage control, and it’s been working pretty well so far, if I hadn’t started immediately back then, I wouldn’t have made it to 25.
I had my issues dealing with it mentally, but over the years, that definitely got better, and now I tend and try to treat every day/week/month/year as a win.
But, no matter how you look at it, chronic illness is a b*tch…

its really tured my whole life around.

Wow. being diagnosed when you were 20? That's so young!

I was around 37 or 38 when my accident happened. I have always relied on being able to be active in my work. I have most pf my work experience in the hospitality sector and no matter how high up the food chain you are, you have to be able to run like hell and carry heavy loads. I just can't do it anymore. Even making the cakes takes days to recover from.

I am trying so hard to find a permanent position (since I was retrenched right after my diagnosis, but that's a story for another time) but the job market is extremely tough. with thousands of applicants, you have to be in the top 50 at least otherwise recruiters won't even bother to look at your CV. It means hunting every day and that can be soul destroying :(

I just wish I could turn back time and be the person I was befre the accident. Like I havent accepted it yet. I'm still in the anger and blame stage of processing it.

Yeah, I understand… And it being the result from an accident makes it more difficult to accept it. In that sense, for my condition, it is hereditary, so just bad luck, not that much to blame (not that I didn’t of course ;-) ). I think it is also due to the young age that I was able to deal with it pretty fast and well (most of the time). One of the consequences of it is a bit similar to yours… troubles finding and keeping a permanent position. Employers don’t like people with health issues. Especially not if they know up front, or get to know that you will be out of office due to illness for at least 15 days a year. That’s why I had to become an independent freelancer. Which comes with its own problems.
And yup, I know about the hospitality sector! My parents both worked in hotels and restaurants (my dad was a chef, and so are 2 of my sons!), and my wife and I did as well off and on. It is heavy, it is intense, it is rewarding :-) But it also is extremely difficult if your body doesn’t cooperate… Wishing you all the best! Keep your hopes high, you’ll find a way that works for you!
