A few years ago, I noticed a tree species that I had not previously seen, or at least realised what I was looking at!
It was the flowers that caught my eye in early spring. They are a lovely lilac colour and appear before the leaves.
The tree looks impressive with just the lilac flowers attached to otherwise bare branches. The leaves are quite large and broad in size. It's strange, but I have not noticed the seed pods before. The tree is not too common here, but I know of several places where it grows.
It is surprising what we miss even when it is right under our noses. I have been unable to find the exact species name for this. I will keep trying and report if I find it.
Keep your eyes peeled and see what surprises you!
