The main problem right now if you're trying to keep fit is avoiding the hottest part of the day which is usually after noon. I decided to get out as early as possible this morning for a mountain bike ride. This turned out to be a good decision.

It was nice and cool when I set out at about 07.30 am. Getting out through town was easy as the traffic was light as well. The strong breeze continued from yesterday though, but that would prove to be a good thing later as the heat increased.

My first of many stops was at the log bench in St.Leonards forest. At this point the conditions were perfect for cycling or running. I had a long ride ahead so I kept my pace down and took plenty of water in my hydration pack.

There were some incredibly beautiful forest tracks on this route. Passing by lakes and deep gills. I stopped often just to take in the peace and quiet. There's not enough of it in modern life! 🤣

Towards the end of the ride at about 11.00am, the heat was beginning to get uncomfortable. I was nearly home though, so it worked out ok. With these conditions set to stay for a while, I will definitely set my alarm clock again next time.

This last picture shows a tunnel under some trees. It is much darker than it looks in the picture and also really dry too, making everything crunch under the wheels of my bike.

A fantastic ride in some gorgeous scenery. I wish I could bottle the experience and sell it to you! 😜
