Movement is health – and for me, 10,000 steps a day is no longer a challenge from a fitness app, but a built-in routine. I rarely see less on my counter, and quite often even more, because life loves to add extra steps when you least expect it.

The last few days were especially generous with time and opportunities to move, so activity easily went beyond the daily standard. Legs were working, head was clearing, everything felt just right.
But today… today Wrocław decided to test everyone’s patience and endurance.

The morning looked like a scene from a disaster movie:
the city covered in snow, traffic jams everywhere, buses breaking down one after another, and car batteries dying faster than winter motivation.
There was movement, sure – mostly fingers gripping the steering wheel and eyes nervously checking the clock.

After that urban survival mode, it was time for a conscious change of pace.
Instead of chasing steps, I chose time with my kids, because some days that’s the best kind of activity.

Right now, the boys are fully focused on a serious construction mission.
On the table: the pirate ship Silent Mary built from bricks – a massive project, instructions thicker than a phone book, parts scattered all over the room, and technical discussions worthy of a real shipyard.
There’s planning, fixing mistakes, squatting down for pieces, bending every two minutes, and the classic:
“Dad, look… I think we did this wrong… or maybe right?”.

The step count might be a bit lower today, but:
– the legs still worked
– the hands never stopped moving
– the mind got some rest
– and the heart charged better than any battery

Because activity isn’t only about distance and numbers on a watch.
It’s also about being present, building together, sharing conversations and laughter that no app can measure.

Ruch to zdrowie – i nie ma co z tym dyskutować.
U mnie 10 tysięcy kroków dziennie to nie ambitny cel z tabelki, tylko codzienna rutyna wpisana w tryb życia. Rzadko kiedy zegarek pokazuje mniej, a bardzo często… więcej, bo życie lubi dorzucać swoje trzy grosze w postaci „a jeszcze tu podejdę” albo „zapomniałem czegoś w drugim końcu miasta”.

Ostatnie dni były wyjątkowo łaskawe pod względem czasu i pogody, więc ruchu było nawet ponad normę. Nogi pracowały, głowa się wietrzyła, wszystko grało.
Ale dziś… dziś Wrocław postanowił zrobić test wytrzymałości mieszkańców.

Poranek wyglądał jak kadr z filmu katastroficznego:
miasto zasypane śniegiem, korki wszędzie, autobusy łapiące awarie jeden po drugim, a akumulatory w autach padające szybciej niż hasło „zima zaskoczyła drogowców”.
Ruch był, owszem – ale raczej palców na kierownicy i nerwowego spoglądania na zegarek.

Po tym miejskim survivalu przyszła pora na świadomą zmianę trybu.
Zamiast gonić kroki – postawiłem na czas z dzieciakami, bo są dni, kiedy to jest najlepsza możliwa aktywność.

Obecnie chłopaki są w pełnym transie budowlanym.

Na tapecie: piracki statek Silent Mary z klocków – projekt monumentalny, instrukcja gruba jak książka telefoniczna, części rozsiane po całym pokoju i dyskusje techniczne godne stoczni inżynieryjnej.
Jest planowanie, poprawki, przysiady po elementy, schylanie się co dwie minuty i klasyczne:
„Tato, zobacz, to chyba źle zrobiliśmy… albo dobrze?”

Kroków może dziś trochę mniej, ale:
– mięśnie nóg swoje zrobiły
– ręce w ciągłym ruchu
– głowa odpoczęła
– serce naładowane lepiej niż niejeden akumulator

Bo aktywność to nie tylko dystans i cyferki na zegarku.
To też bycie tu i teraz, wspólne budowanie, rozmowy i śmiech, którego nie da się zmierzyć żadną aplikacją.
