Probably not as much as is in that truck!
Early this morning I got a text from the Acme Wood Products telling me the driver had just left and should arrive in about 30 minutes. So we hurriedly got ready and went outside to wait. @silvertop had gone back in when I heard the truck coming over on the North Pass Road! He stopped at the base of our road assessing the first hill. Then he popped it in gear and started up. We stopped him in the road as we wanted him to see the situation. It wasn’t the ideal delivery situation because of how our driveway, the electrical entrance cable, and vegetation are.
We knew we had 12’ between the ground and the entrance cable and that the truck was 10’ tall. I thought we were good until I spied the logs over the cab! 😳😅. Fortunately Cody, the owner and our driver was good at what he does! He pulled in and up, and then proceeded to back up the other side of the Y of the driveway. I realized early on as he began this process, that in all likelihood, the wood logs would take out my lilacs. What could I say? I wasn’t happy about it but I didn’t figure there was anything to be done. When he got out of the truck to assess things, he looked at me with regret and I told him I realized what was going to happen. I’d already told @silvertop he’d have to buy me new ones!
He got back in the truck and did some maneuvering and began to un-secure the load.

Then it was time to I held my breath for the lilacs with fingers and toes crossed……
Amazingly, the lilacs survived! The first one in the row did get hit, but it didn’t break it. It was pinned to the ground at a right angle, but later, @silvertop got out his trusty chainsaw and took care of the offending log.
This dump truck load of logs is supposed to be 4 cords of firewood. However, @silvertop is estimating closer to almost 6 based on what he’s already taken down to ‘firewood log’ sized rounds to split. This was much more cost effective than purchasing already split wood. The whole process had been a bit nerve wracking, so after the dust settled, we took off for some Starbucks to settle our nerves! All’s well that ends well! 😎👍
