I hate the way they make things today. Take ceiling fans for example. I don't expect things to last forever and I had a really good run out of some good old school quality fans I installed into my own house more than twenty years ago. I have just started replacing them as a few are getting noisy and look pretty crappy.There have been lots of improvements over the years, the new DC motors are much smoother and quieter than the old AC ones. The LED lighting is so much better than anything that has been before but the battery powered electronic wall controllers definitely feel like a well designed weak point that will require the whole unit to be replaced long before its predecessor. I would much prefer an old school light switch and rotating selector switch controller, not just because if the remote controller battery goes flat. It just won't work until you can get to the shop for a replacement. The remote has meant less cabling that is needed for the install but the batteries and electronics just feels like an obviously long term weak point.
