Greetings and have a great week! After a long time, I am returning to the MUSICAL MONDAY, initiative—created by @eugelys—which is the ideal place to share our musical memories and experiencesthes.
Para todo el planeta es bien conocido que la mayor parte de los venezolanos estamos de luto, no digo que el 100% de nosotros lo esté, porque es evidente que a una parte de los venezolanos les importa un comino el dolor y la devastación que está sufriendo mi pueblo, en fin, dejémos eso a la justicia divina, que tarda, pero siempre llega. Y bueno, cuando estamos de luto es como que difícil oír música, pues culturalmente asociamos el dolor con eliminar cualquier estímulo que nos brinde un poco de alegría, y esto es absolutamente comprensible y respetable; sin embargo, pasan los días y cada quien requiere herramientas para lidiar con el dolor. Y en mi caso uno de los elementos que me es más útil es LA MÚSICA. La música puede elevar mi energía, transmitirme un poquito de solaz y esperanza.
It is well known across the globe that the majority of Venezuelans are in mourning. I won't say that 100% of us are, because it is evident that some Venezuelans couldn't care less about the pain and devastation my people are enduring—but let us leave that to divine justice; it may be slow, but it always arrives. And well, when we are in mourning, it feels difficult to listen to music, as culturally we associate grief with eliminating any stimulus that might bring us a bit of joy—a reaction that is entirely understandable and worthy of respect. Yet, as the days go by, everyone needs tools to cope with the pain. In my case, one of the things I find most helpful is MUSIC. Music can lift my spirits and bring me a measure of solace and hope.
En mi casa siempre hay música, pues a mi esposo y a mí nos encanta, razón por la cual siempre hay un radio prendido o alguna lista de música sonando; pero desde el 24 de junio pasado, lo que ha predominado es el silencio en mi hogar. Ni mi esposo ni yo hemos querido poner música, especialmente él ha estado triste y me ha pedido que respete eso, lo cual he hecho; sin embargo, en soledad, ya sea estando en la cocina, en el solar, en la oficina, oigo algo de música con el volumen bajito, pues como ya dije, me ayuda a lidiar con el dolor, y parte de las canciones que estoy oyendo me remiten a una etapa más feliz de mi vida y de mi país, me refiero a los años 80, una época luminosa, divertida y colorida. Y parte de estas canciones son las de la banda española HOMBRES G, quienes tuvieron mucho éxito en Venezuela y cuyas canciones forman parte del soundtrack de la vida de muchos de nosotros. Dicho lo anterior, veamos mis tres canciones de hoy.
There is always music in my home because my husband and I love it; consequently, a radio is usually on or a playlist is playing. However, since last June 24th, silence has prevailed in our household. Neither my husband nor I have felt like playing music; he, in particular, has been sad and asked me to respect that—a request I have honored. Yet, when I am alone—whether in the kitchen, the yard, or the office—I do listen to some music at a low volume. As I mentioned, it helps me cope with the pain, and some of the songs transport me back to a happier time in my life and for my country: the 1980s—a bright, fun, and colorful era. Among these songs are tracks by the Spanish band Hombres G, who enjoyed great success in Venezuela and whose music forms part of the soundtrack to many of our lives. With that said, let’s take a look at my three songs for today.
Mis canciones para este Musical Monday / My songs for this Musical Monday
My first song for today is the fun track “VOY A PASÁRMELO BIEN” —a really cool rock 'n' roll tune that was one of HOMBRES G's most popular hits; it was a staple at mobile DJ parties and, later on, during the "crazy hour" at events. This song radiates joy and enthusiasm, which is why I love listening to it. Here is the video.gem.
My second song for today is “UNA MUJER DE BANDERA”, a really cool rock track where the bass and drums sound fantastic. The lyrics, while a bit bizarre, are quite interesting; they tell the story of a guy trying to win over a girl, only to get beaten up by her every time he tries. Yet, he remains in love with her. It’s a song I really enjoy, especially for the music. Here is the official video.
Y para cerrar este singular MUSICAL MONDAY, les comparto un pop con sus toques de ska, también divertido y con una letra bizarra, y es “MARTA TIENE UN MARCAPASOS”, la cual era una canción siempre presente en las guerras de minitecas, ideal para hacer mezclas. Es una canción que sólo con su música eleva la energía. Aquí les dejo el video.
And to close out this lovely MUSICAL MONDAY, I’m sharing a pop track with ska influences —fun and featuring quirky lyrics— called “MARTA TIENE UN MARCAPASOS”, It was a staple at mobile DJ battles and is perfect for mixing; the music alone instantly boosts the energy. Here is the video.
