Today, October 18, 2022, I greet you again. And it's a special day because it's Three Tune Tuesday, the coolest music initiative on the blockchain, which today reaches its 73nd edition. Thanks to the ingenuity of our friend @ablaze, all of us who make life in Hive , and those of us who love music, can bring to the Music community, those songs that we like to share and celebrate them.

Today I wanted to vary a little bit, and I have brought reggae, that rhythm so delicious, cadenced and beautiful that has made life happy for more than one; And for that, I invited the British band UB40, one of the best reggae exhibitors in the world. I am 100% sure that many of you have imprinted in your memory a song performed by them, such as the unforgettable "Red, red wine".

I was able to hear UB40 for the first time on one of the radio stations in my city (remember that at that time it was A.M.), but then I had a more direct approach to them, thanks to a boyfriend I had in the early 90s, who really loved reggae, and he made me know and appreciate this beautiful musical style, in fact, this album is a gift that he gave me decades ago, only good memories remain of him, hahahaha, as you will see.

I clearly remember the day he gave me this acetate, it was on some Saturday evening in 1993, perhaps around Christmas, and well, he came to my apartment back then with a plastic bag from a disck store in the city, it was obvious its content: An album, specifically "Promises and Lies”. He took it out of the bag and we immediately tried it out on the stereo I had at the time. It was really magical to sit down with him to listen to the whole album, while we had a soda and ate chips; It was something we used to do together. I already did it since I was younger, (as I said in a previous post, it was a kind of ritual), and he did it too; That's why I think music was one of the things that made us coincide and fall in love, and it was a lucky coincidence, because thanks to him I was able to learn a lot about reggae, which I deeply appreciate because it's beautiful. Moreover, it seems sacrilege to me that something as ugly and vulgar as reggaeton has a phonetic root similar to reggae, that they have taken the name of such a beautiful and diverse musical genre, to name something that is not music.

I know it's rude to check the price of things that we get, but I received this album as a gift almost 30 years ago, so I think it doesn't matter much anymore; although checking the cover, I couldn't get the retail price, so we'll be left with the unknown, hahahaha. The truth is that it is a minimalist cover, although the music is not. It is white, on the front it has a beautiful abstract work of art, a theme that it maintains on the back of the packaging, where we can see 8 miniatures of paintings; and even on the label of the acetate itself, since the names of the songs are grouped on side A, and on the label that corresponds to side B, we see a beautiful yellow tulip. I was reviewing the disk to find out who the author is, and I found the name of Peter Max Khandola, of whom I found a very brief bibliographic review, according to which he is a photographer of British nationality, and who is also a teacher of photography at the School of Art and Design at Nottingham Trent University. I thought this photographer had taken the photos of the band members, (which you can also see on the back of the album cover), but I read in the credits that they were taken by David Scheinmann.

Ahora vamos con mis canciones / Now let's go with my songs
In all honesty, the 11 songs on "Promises and Lies", I like them a lot, but I couldn't bring them all, so I chose three, and I start with the one that corresponds to the first groove of side A of the acetate, and it is “C'est La Vie”, a beautiful melody with a very particular beginning. At that time, he (who was my boyfriend) was doing an advanced English course, and it was easier for him to translate the lyrics of the songs we heard. To be honest, I don't remember if this album had a songbook or not, maybe it did and it got lost over the years and the moves. The truth is that in addition to the beautiful rhythm of the song, I liked the lyrics perhaps because of their crudeness, and that is why I will share a little with you. Then I leave the video, I hope you enjoy it.

Continuing with my songs for this week, I bring you “Higher Ground”, which corresponds to the fifth groove of the A-side of the album. I like everything about this song, especially the lyrics; and as far as the melody is concerned, it has some great sounding trumpet parts. This song in particular made me identify with it, because of its lyrics, because that's how I felt and still feel that way. Take a look at this lyrical beauty and then check out the video.

To finish my songs for today, I bring you the song that opens the B-side of the album, and it is a classic, and when I say that this song is a classic, it is because it is; it is “(I Can't Help) Falling In Love With You”, which was performed for the first time by the great Elvis Presley, in 1961. Obviously I had heard it before, because I love Elvis, (perhaps I'll do a ttt of him, I think I have one or two acetates), and this version seemed great to me, besides, when I heard it, sang it and danced it with who was one of my great loves, made it take on an even more special meaning. Now, if we read the credits on the back of the album cover, UB40 expressly indicates that this song is not its authorship and indicates the corresponding authors, as you can see in the following photo. I also leave you a piece of its lyrics and the video, so that you can rejoice your souls with this beautiful song.
