I captured these photos as night fell in our backyard, when we made a small campfire from twigs and dry organic waste. The moment was actually very simple, but that's where it was so special: in the silence and darkness, the fire burned so beautifully and full of character.
I deliberately shot from a low angle so the flames appeared towering, dancing freely in the night wind and the dark background. The yellow, red, and orange hues of the fire contrasted sharply against the dark blue sky and the trees, which were only silhouetted. This effect was achieved by using night mode on my smartphone camera and slightly adjusting the exposure to make the light from the fire more dominant.
🔍 Technique I Used:
Smartphone camera with Night Mode.
Manual focus to keep the fire sharp.
Minor editing in Photoshop Express to adjust the contrast, sharpness, and saturation to make the fire's colors more dramatic yet natural.
For me, photographing fire isn't just about capturing light, but also about experiencing life in its movement. Fire brings a feeling of warmth, sometimes wild, and sometimes calm like human emotions. Each form of flame will never be the same, and that is what makes it so interesting as a photography subject.
