In this section, I will no longer be handing out STARBITS, as those entries are not allowed. However, I will continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.
Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me remember whether I have already talked about a song before or not. The most recent one is Angel of the Morning from the iconic artist Juice Newton.
El salto de sofia: Valentin y los Volcanes
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is El salto de sofia from the argentine indie band Valentin y los Volcanes
For today's post, I wanted to bring something alternative that is related to an indie music group. About three or four years ago, I was bored listening to music on Spotify, trying to find new songs or artists to listen to, as I had grown a little tired of what I was listening to at the time.
One of the things that caught my attention the most was a playlist created by the Spotify team itself that contained several Argentine indie rock artists. I no longer have that playlist to use as an example, but I remember that it lasted about two or three hours. I listened to it in its entirety, hoping to find a song worth adding to my “likes.”
Among the artists I ended up listening to, I would highlight artists such as Niña Lobo, for her song Dentro, Lanza Internacional, for De Policía a Ladrón, Los Siberianos for Perdido Entre la Gente, Shaman y los Pilares de la Creación, for Sonríe, and Julen y la Gente Sola, for a song that I ended up liking a lot, Alquimista. In addition to all of them, there was a band that caught my attention called Valentin y Los Volcanes, after listening to one of their best-known songs, Idiotas Adorables.
A few months after adding that song, I ended up listening to it again, which made me a little curious, and I ended up exploring many more songs by the group. My first impression was one of total surprise, because I loved every song I listened to, which seemed strange to me considering that they weren't such a successful group.
The first album I listened to in its entirety was the one released in 2019 called Todos los Sábados del Mundo, which contains great songs like Pequeña Napoleon, Los Chicos de Orense, Si Ud. Fuera la Muerte, Los Dias Felices, and 100000 Reflejos. Todos los Sábados would end up becoming my favorite album by the band.
Finally, I ended up listening to one of their latest albums to see if I could find another song that was worth it. I only managed to find two songs that I really loved: Sonámbulos and my choice for today, El Salto de Sofía.
The band has approximately 5,500 monthly listeners, which is a respectable number but does not place them among the major active rock bands in Argentina, considering that groups such as Las Pastillas del Abuelo and Ciro y los Persas have more than 1,500,000 monthly listeners. Despite this, I believe that they are a band that deserves more recognition, as they are one of the few indie bands that have managed to captivate me with more than one song.
